Bafana Bafana international Ime Okon marked his return from injury with a goal in Hannover 96’s 3-2 loss to Darmstadt on Saturday.
The 21-year-old defender brought Hannover level at 1-1 with Darmstadt in the 18th minute, but his side could not hold on and suffered their third loss in the German second tier this season.
Hannover 96 sit fifth in the 2 Bundesliga with 21 points from 12 league games. The team has registered six wins, three draws and three losses.
Okon was named in the Bafana Bafana squad for the September FIFA World Cup qualifiers but was forced to withdraw from camp due to injury. He then suffered another injury in his side’s victory over Arminia Bielefeld on September 28 and was forced to miss Bafana Bafana’s October fixtures, which saw the nation qualify for the global showpiece.
The former SuperSport United player was not named in coach Hugo Broos’ side for South Africa’s upcoming friendly against Zambia and will be working hard to be included in the team for the Africa Cup of Nations in December.
