Bafana coach Hugo Broos recently expressed that he was ‘immediately convinced’ to ring up Thapelo Maseko.
With South Africa set to face Panama in two separate friendly encounters later this month, Thapelo Maseko has now been given the opportunity to represent the national team once more.
Currently with AEL Limassol, Maseko has had his fair share of injury woes during the last couple of years, which slowed his progression within the national team. Now though, as he finds form at a crucial time of the year, Broos was left excited at Maseko’s showings in Cyprus.
“I think Thapelo has a difficult period behind him. At Sundowns he was injured month after month,” Broos said, as per Soccer Laduma.
“He couldn’t perform, he couldn’t show his quality. He is in Cyprus and he is playing very good and my old assistant coach follows the Cypriot Championship closely.
“He called me a month ago and said ‘Thapelo is playing very good, look at him’. So, we were looking at some games and we were immediately convinced and we have to call him back.”
