With Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz lamenting the level officiating in the PSL, the Glamour Boys mentor has called for VAR to be implemented into the local game.
According to Da Cruz, Chiefs have been on the end of wrongful calls from the referee’s during the last couple of games and likewise deserved a penalty shout during their recent 1-1 draw with Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership.
While the debate rages on regarding VAR in the PSL, Da Cruz feels that the modern way of officiating can ‘support’ referees going forward.
“He says that to develop the PSL and help our referees, we need to set up the VAR,” said Da Cruz, as per FarPost.
“Against Richards Bay, there was one offside incident where we could have scored a goal, and against Siwelele FC, [Wandile] Duba scored a goal, and it was disallowed.
“Today there was a penalty, so he said if we want to continue to develop the championship, we need to set up the VAR to help our referees. Sometimes it can be against us, or it can be with us. He doesn’t want to offend or attack the referees. But he says that it’s important to set up the VAR to support the referees.”
