Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes his team’s efficiency in front of goal will stand them in good stead in the Betway Premiership title race.
The Buccaneers thumped Golden Arrows 5-0 at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday to keep pace with league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who beat Durban City 1-0 in a concurrent match to remain two points clear at the summit.
Ouaddou’s side have now scored 11 goals in their last two games which could prove crucial at the end of the season should the championship be decided on goal difference.
Ouaddou hailed a dominant display from Bucs against Abafana Bes’thende and insists they will continue to take the fight to the Brazilians in the final seven matches.
“Yes, we had full control of the game in the attacking animation, in the defensive animation I think we were dominant in all areas,” he told SuperSport TV.
“So, congratulations to the boys, you can see that Pirates is still alive and we’re going to fight until the end whatever happens.
“But we can see that when the boys start to be efficient in the last third, we can see that we can score a lot of goals. That happened at the beginning of the season in the middle, but you remember I was telling you that we need to be more efficient.
“So, now they are putting [in] the goals – I’m happy and we will have a fantastic gift at the end of the season.”
