Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfield general Teko Modise spoke glowingly of the upcoming inaugural Hollywoodbets Gauteng Kasi Championship tournament which is set to commence at the Duduza Stadium on 28 and 29 March.
The tournament will feature eight Gauteng township sides with the winning team set to walk away with a R100 000 prize.
According to Hollywood Bets, SA football greats such as Brian Baloyi and Jerry Sikhosana will be in attendance, which could give players the extra incentive to showcase their skills on the ball.
According to Modise, who is widely known as one of the most skilful players to ever grace the local game, Kasi tournaments can serve as a launchpad for young players to play in the PSL.
“We always have a saying in the kasi that says, ‘play like it’s your last game’ because you never know who is watching,” Modise said, as per Hollywood Bets.
“It is a stage for you guys, to showcase your talent, to express yourself the way that you normally do and play with a smile on your face because this is something that we really, really love.
“I just hope that come this weekend we will see superstars that will propel to be part of a PSL team next season. I can’t wait one day to interview a player who played in this tournament and hear their story — because every footballer has a story and it starts by telling it with your legs.”
