Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has refused to comment on rumors linking two high-profile coaches to the club while the position of head coach is still occupied.
After the departure of Nasreddine Nabi in September, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze became co-coaches and managed an impressive run. Under their guidance, the club qualified for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup and went nine games undefeated in the Betway Premiership.
However, Amakhosi struggled in domestic cups, being knocked out of the first round of both the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup by Stellenbosch.
In addition, the club failed to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Confederation Cup, losing to Zamalek on the final matchday of the group stage to lose out on goal difference.
Now, the Glamour boys are struggling, having lost five of their last six matches in all competitions, including three consecutive defeats in the league.
They sit in sixth on the log with 30 points from 18 games, 14 off of top spot but with a game in hand.
With any chance of silverware this season ended, many have speculated over potential coaches changes at the club, with Benni McCarthy and Pitso Mosimane’s names mentioned.
However, speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, Motaung Jr refused to comment, stating it would be unprofessional and not the right thing to do.
“You are mentioning two top individuals, who have achieved tremendous things in their careers,” he said.
“[But] it would be unfair of me to sit here and talk about coaches, when we have coaches in the team.
“We have our immediate mandate and responsibility to restore the pride and the hurt that [has] happened to the [AmaKhosi] nation and to the team.
“I have a lot of respect for both of those gentlemen, they have achieved a lot through their playing days, achieved as coaches and it’s always an honour to be associated with people like that,” he said.
