MC Alger head coach Rhulani Mokwena has admitted his future with the Algerian champions is uncertain after losing to his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns.
A Brayan Leon brace inspired the South African giants to a 2-0 victory over Alger in their final CAF Champions League Group C match, which was played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.
Therefore, the Dean bowed out of Africa’s most prestigious football club tournament after finishing third in Group C and Mokwena discussed where it went wrong in their campaign.
“We didn’t get knocked out today. If you review our participation, the turning point was away in Rwanda against Al Hilal,” Mokwena told Goal Mzansi.
“We conceded first, fought back to 1-1, and then lost it 2-1 in the final 15 minutes. In this competition, securing a point away from home is vital.”
Mokwena, who joined Alger on a two-year deal in July 2025, stated that he was unsure about his future with the North African club.
“I don’t know. I’m focused on what’s left of the remaining of the season, and that’s a question that’s not within my control now,” he added.
The South African tactician has guided the Dean to an Algerian Super Cup win and they are also in the Algerian Cup semi-finals.
Alger will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Algerian Ligue 1 standings when they take on MC Oran on Friday.
