Cardoso clarifies

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has provided clarity regarding the roles and duties of suspended technical staff member Mario Masha.

Masha, who first joined the club under Pitso Mosimane, has been suspended for allegedly leaking information to MC Alger and former Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena ahead of the two teams’ CAF Champions League clash at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. He awaits the outcome of an internal investigation.

Mokwena has denied the allegations, as per African Football

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Friday, Cardoso sought to set the record straight, stating he had been made aware of much false information and “misconceptions” spreading on social media regarding the situation.

“He [Mario Masha] was also my assistant coach. He was present at every training session, every meeting, every preparation, every team meeting and every pitch training session, so there is a lot of misinformation,” Cardoso said.

The Portuguese tactician refused to comment on the ongoing investigation ahead of his team’s must win clash.

“As you know, this is a pending process occurring in the club, and when these situations are happening, obviously no one should speak about it and in order to preserve as much as possible. That’s not a subject for here. It’s obviously not the direction of our thoughts at the moment – our thoughts at this moment are concentrated on preparing for the game,” said Cardoso.

Mamelodi Sundowns will face a tough task as they desperately attempt to reach the knockout stage of the Champions League, needing a victory at home in their final group games to do so.
