Dithejane joins Mbokazi

Chicago Fire has added another young South African talent to its squad, unveiling the signing of Puso Dithejane from TS Galaxy.

Dithejane’s contract at the MLS side will run  through until the 2029/30 season, with the club having the option to extend for a further season.

The 21-year-old will link up with fellow South African youngster Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who signed for the Chicago-based outfit in December. Both players occupy U-22 initiative slots and international roster positions.

In a statement released by the club announcing the signing, Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter stated: “In welcoming Puso to Chicago, we’re adding one of South Africa’s best young, attacking players to our team.”

“His dynamic energy will add depth to our squad this season, while also setting the foundation for him to continue developing and strengthening the team for many seasons to come,” Berhalter said.

Dithejane claimed the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award in August after bagging a hattrick and two assists in the first month of the 2025/26 season.

The youngster has emerged as one of South Africa’s best rising stars and was included in Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, but was not selected in the final squad.

Dithejane bagged four goals and four assists in 12 Betway Premiership appearances in the 2025/26 campaign and will be looking to continue his fine form in the MLS.
