Bafana Bafana’s Lyle Foster stated that despite South Africa’s loss to Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16, he believes Bafana Bafana were the better side.
South Africa’s continental campaign came to an end on Sunday at the Agdal Medina Stadium in Rabat, as Cameroon claimed a 2-1 victory.
Bafana Bafana started the game well and created early chances but could not convert them. Cameroon struck in the 34th and 47th minutes, taking advantage of lapses in concentration at the back from Bafana.
Evidence Makgopa pulled one back in the dying stages but it was not enough to keep South Africa’s tournament hopes alive.
“We had early chances, we could have converted but maybe just a bit unlucky,” said Foster on SABC Sport, speaking after the fixture.
“I think we did really well and maybe that played a part in the game. We should have gone up, but we were just unlucky.”
“We started the game well and tactically, we matched the way they played, we surprised them,” added the Burnley forward.
“We were able to create chances. I think we were in the game the whole time and to be honest, all around, we were probably the better team.
“They just scored a goal from nowhere and then another one in the second half which hurts a bit.”
The Burnley forward enjoyed his time at the continental showpiece, bagging two goals and providing two assists in four games.
