Thembinkosi Lorch continues to shine for Wydad AC, setting up the club’s winning goal against Azam in the CAF Confederations Cup on Friday.
Wydad emerged a 1-0 victors at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with Lorch assisting Nordin Amrabat for the only goal of the game in the 57th minute.
The former Bafana Bafana international received the ball in the box but found little space to turn and get a shot off. Instead, he laid the ball off for Amrabat with a clever backheel and the right winger found the back of the net.
Lorch has enjoyed a successful start to the 2025/26 season with the Moroccan club, which sits atop the Botola Pro 1 having registered 20 points in eight games with six wins and two draws.
The 32-year-old has scored four goals and provided one assist in seven league games, and managed one goal and two assists in three CAF Confederations Cup fixtures.
Despite his performances, Lorch was not included in Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco from 21 December to 18 January.
