Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze confirmed that Flávio Silva has been called up to represent the Guinea-Bissau national team in the upcoming international window.
Silva joined AmaKhosi in July from Persebaya Surabaya in the Indonesian first tier and has enjoyed his start at the club, scoring four goals in five Betway Premiership games despite starting only one.
He represented Portugal at U-19 level, scoring twice in three appearances in 2015, but has now received his first call-up to represent Guinea-Bissau, his country of birth.
Speaking after Chiefs’ 4-1 win over Orbit College on Tuesday, in which Silva scored, Kaze confirmed the striker’s absence for the upcoming international break, admitting it’s an indicator of good business when a foreign player is chosen to represent his national team.
“Flavio Silva got a call-up from the national team. They play a friendly game against Angola. He has been called up. It’s very good for him, for the team. He’s a player that is getting back his confidence. He’s in a good moment. That, as well, can help him. As a club, when you get a foreigner that gets a call-up, then you know that you have done your homework in terms of recruitment,” Kaze said.
AmaKhosi are enjoying their start to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season and sit third on the table with 22 points, three points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with a game in hand.
