Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze believes his side is finding its stride after defeating Orbit College 4-1 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
AmaKhosi went 2-0 up courtesy of Bafana Bafana youngster Mduduzi Shabalala before the Mswenko Boys struck back through Ayanda Lukhele. Shabalala set up Amajita star Mfundo Vilakazi for Chiefs’ third goal and substitute Flávio Silva continued his hot start, netting his fourth goal in five games.
Following their win, Chiefs sit level with Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table on 22 points.
“I believe that it’s the first time since I’m here, in the league we [have] scored four goals. I’m very happy and very happy as well for the three points,” said Kaze after the match.
Kaze believes that after a start to the season that saw a lack of goals, things are finally clicking upfront for AmaKhosi.
“I believe that, since the beginning, the performances were there. It’s only the goals that were missing. The performance is there,” he said.
“First, you need to give confidence to the players. You need to find the right combinations and, as well, you need to be clinical. There are players that, maybe, he missed a goal today or a game and you just need to give him the confidence to go again the next day and show him that a bad game or a bad time can happen.”
Kaze stated that despite his impressive performance, bagging two goals and an assist, Shabalala has room for improvement and needs to continue to contribute.
“I believe a player like Shabalala is a player that has a very big margin of progression. He’s still 21-years-old and he can improve in so many areas. One of them is that, as a number 10, he needs to contribute more on the areas that he’s supposed to help, which means the goals and assists. Sometimes, to find the right decisions, the right pass. I would say that, probably, there were moments in the past that, when he got inside the box, he was taking more touches than needed,” he said.
His assessment was, however, not without praise.
“It’s something that we are correcting every day and the good thing with him is that he’s an unbelievable player and he’s willing to learn every day.”
