Kaizer Chiefs co-head coach Khalil Ben Youssef was left to rue his side’s missed chances after his side’s draw with AS Simba on Saturday.
Amakhosi were hoping to secure a first-leg advantage when they face DR Congo Cup champions Simba in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round clash in Lubumbashi.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw despite Chiefs creating two golden goal opportunities, but Khanyisa Mayo and Ashley Du Preez failed to hit the back of the net.
“I think in the first half, we got two opportunities to score. We were unlucky, ” Ben Youssef told the Chiefs media team.
“One of them crossbar of Mayo, and the second in the 88th minute, I think a good combination between Shabalala, (Mfundo) Vilakazi and then (Mduduzi) Shabalala gave for Ashley.
“He was unlucky. Even though it was an empty goal, he was unlucky. The ball was out. But the plan of the game, I think we succeeded in the plan of the game, in how we managed the first 45 minutes,” he added.
“And we know that in the second half we will find a lot of space and we got two opportunities in the second half to score, but we were unlucky [not] to score.”
Chiefs will host Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership match at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, before welcoming Simba to the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday in the second-leg clash.
“Now it’s finished, the first leg, first game, we still have another game. Also, I think it will be tough for us. It will be difficult, but the Simba team is good. They show us a lot of quality today. It’s a physical team, not a tactical or technical team,” Tunisian tactician Ben Youssef added.
“ A lot of physique. We also have the Siwelele game on Wednesday. We have to prepare it, and we’ll have time to analyse again, this game, and to find to prepare our team for the next game.
“Our target is to be first in the group stage, then to manage game by game, and we try to do our best to make our fans happy about the situation.”
