The South African Football Association (SAFA) has unveiled Adidas as its new official technical partner ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.
The two parties signed a three-year deal that will see all South African national football teams outfitted by Adidas.
The announcement came on Friday after SAFA revealed that it would not renew its partnership with French brand Le Coq Sportif upon the conclusion of its five year deal in December.
Adidas last kitted South African teams at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was hosted in South Africa. 15-years-later, the two parties have come together once more ahead of the nation’s participation in football’s biggest tournament.
SAFA’s Chief Executive Officer, Lydia Monyepao, cited the history between the two brands and stated that the deal is a sign of the rise of South African football on the continent.
“Adidas has long been part of our football story, and together we’ll inspire South Africans everywhere to believe that they’ve got what it takes. This return also marks the strengthening of our standing among the global football nations community as we compete at FIFA and CAF tournaments regularly and being supported by a brand that invests in innovation, performance and style to meet the needs of a modern sports organisation like us,” said Monyepao.
“Adidas has a proud and rich football heritage, pioneering products for the best teams and athletes around the world. We’re proud to again stand alongside Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana and other SAFA teams as they represent the spirit of South Africa on the international stage,” said Tom Brown, Adidas’ Senior Brand Director for South Africa.
It is not yet clear whether Bafana Bafana will don Adidas or Le Coq Sportif kit at the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in December and January.
