South Africa head coach Pitso Mosimane has admitted he was “afraid” Thabang Matuludi would join Orlando Pirates from Polokwane City.
The accomplished tactician is instead pleased the defender chose Mamelodi Sundowns, saying he did not want to fight with Kamogelo Sebelebele.
Mosimane added that the competition created by the move is “beautiful” and that he wishes he had the same depth in every position.
“I was afraid that Matuludi is gonna go there. He is not gonna go there, and I don’t wanna be fighting with (Kamogelo) Sebelebele,” Mosimane told GOAL Mzansi.
“So let the competition be there. I am so happy it happened that way, right? It is beautiful. Let it go that way. I wish I had that in all positions.”
Mosimane’s first game back is Bafana’s AFCON qualifier against Guinea at Orlando Stadium on 26 September.
South Africa then face Eritrea in Cairo on 30 September and Egypt in a friendly on 4 October.
With Khuliso Mudau injured, he will have to start another right-back, with Matuludi, Sebelebele and Thapelo Morena as options.
