Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender and current Hope FC coach Clayton Daniels recently expressed his wishes of Cape Town football returning to its very best again.
The 42-year-old currently heads Hope FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, as the newly promoted side put plans in place to face Cape Town City in a league clash on Sunday.
As a player who featured for Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) as a youth, Daniels noted that the upcoming game could inspire the Mother City youth.
Daniels thus suggested that Cape Town sides are missed in top flight football, as seen with the likes of Ajax and Santos FC.
“It’s about time that Cape Town has these types of games,” Daniels told Soccer Laduma.
“Our club is all about hope and to make Hope contagious and these types of games can reflect into the communities, to get the youngsters to dream of playing professional football.
“NFD is still a professional level and it’s good that we can have these games for Cape Town. Hopefully in future we can take this game to the Premiership and bring the glory days back to Cape Town like when there was Ajax and Santos.”
