Lesotho’s national team technical staff, led by head coach Bob Mafoso, recently held a courtesy meeting with Pitso Mosimane to discuss continental football, technical development and possible collaboration with his youth programme.
At the same time, the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) has submitted Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein as the venue for Likuena’s AFCON 2027 qualifier against Ismael Saibari, Azzedine Ounahi and captain Achraf Hakimi’s Morocco on 29 September, because local stadiums do not meet CAF standards.
“The Lesotho Football Association has submitted Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein as the venue to host its first home fixture in the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA Group Stage against Morocco on Tuesday, 29 September,” a LeFA statement read.
“The highly anticipated match will see Likuena host Africa’s number one ranked team, the Atlas Lions, in the Free State after the association submitted the South African venue for CAF approval.
“Lesotho remains among the countries whose national stadiums do not meet CAF standards to host international matches. This follows the recent publication of venues approved to host games during the September and October FIFA window.”
A LeFA statement after the meeting incoming Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, Mosimane, said, “Discussions during the meeting focused on continental football, technical development matters, and potential areas of collaboration between the Lesotho Football Association and the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football.”
“The engagement forms part of LeFA’s ongoing efforts to benchmark, learn, and build strategic partnerships that will contribute to the growth and development of football in Lesotho at both national team and youth level.”
