Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has indicated that nearly all the players who missed the midweek match are unlikely to return for Saturday’s Betway Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns due to the short turnaround time.
Players sidelined from Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United—including Ethan Chislett, Bradley Cross, Paseka Mako, Nkanyiso Shinga, Rushwin Dortley and Faiz Abrahams—are expected to remain unavailable due to injury or lack of match fitness. One additional player is doubtful pending a medical decision.
The match between Chiefs and Sundowns is set for 15:00 at FNB Stadium, where around 32,000 tickets had already been sold by Thursday lunchtime.
“It will be the same players because the time is too short,” the Frenchman told reporters on Thursday.
“These players will be out of the squad, we also have one who we’re doubtful about. We will wait for the medical department today to make a decision.”
A win for Chiefs would take them to nine points from three matches and firmly cement their place at the top of the early Betway Premiership table after a perfect start.
Sundowns, on the other hand, need a win that would take them to six points from two games, drawing them level with Chiefs on points and keeping their title challenge firmly on track after a delayed start.
