Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has provided an update on winger Langelihle Phili, who is heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a strong breakout season with nine goals in 39 appearances, prompting Chiefs interest that reportedly includes a possible deal involving Ashley du Preez plus cash for a R16 million asking price.
Hunt expressed a desire to keep Phili but acknowledged that contractual circumstances will play a key role, while noting ongoing media speculation.
“Obviously you don’t want to lose the player,” the accomplished and experienced tactician told GOAL Mzansi.
“He’s one of the hottest properties in South African football, right now. You don’t want to lose him.
“But I mean circumstances, contractual circumstances and all those type of things come into play,” he added.
“It’s been a lot of media speculation and I’m sure the next day or two we’ll hear some more…”
Chiefs will have to seal the deal before the South African transfer window closes on September 22.
