Jordaan Warning

Sandile Zungu, AmaZulu chairman and businessman, is challenging incumbent Danny Jordaan for the SAFA presidency in the election set for September 2026.

The KZN businessman has received strong encouragement from regions across South Africa after visiting nearly all provinces, describing the support as phenomenal and indicating that change is widely desired.

Zungu believes South African soccer is at a low point with dysfunctional development structures and aims to improve governance to attract private sector investment for grassroots programs including school and women’s soccer.

“The response has been phenomenal, I have been really encouraged by what they tell me that I make a lot of sense..,” Zungu said on Sowetan.

They are busy saying now it is time for a change and change is inevitable, and a victory for you Zungu is assured… Zungu for president of Safa.”

“Soccer is at its lowest… we are practically dysfunctional, if not dead.”

The election will take place on September 12, with Jordaan having served as SAFA president for 13 years.

Zungu prioritizes commercial partnerships and regional development to revive school soccer, women’s soccer, and overall structures that he describes as currently dysfunctional.
