Nwabali back in the PSL after overseas rumours fade

Nigeria international Stanley Nwabali has officially rejoined Betway Premiership club Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season.

After mutually parting ways with the Chilli Boys in February 2026 in a bid to secure a bigger move, the experienced goalkeeper was linked with several overseas clubs including English Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR), Saudi Pro League teams (notably Al-Ettifaq), and Morocco’s Raja Club Athletic. Strong local interest reported from Kaizer Chiefs also surfaced.

Nwabali has been a reliable No. 1 for the Super Eagles over the years and remained Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout the 2025 AFCON campaign. After taking time away, Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” a club statement read.

“After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”

In the upcoming Betway Premiership season, Nwabali will hope to reclaim his spot as Chippa United’s undisputed number one, deliver consistent clean sheets, and help the Chilli Boys push for a top-eight finish or better.

On the international front, the 30-year-old aims to regain his place as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper and play a key role in the Super Eagles’ campaigns for the 2027 AFCON and the qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup.
