Former Premier Soccer League player Tlou Segolela has insisted that Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng must win the PSL Football of the Year award.
Mofokeng, who played a key role in the Buccaneers winning the Betway Premiership and breaking Mamelodi Sundowns’ stranglehold on the title, is up against teammate Oswin Appollis and the Brazilians’ Teboho Mokoena.
The awards ceremony will take place on July 27.
“We have to be realistic and give it to the young man [Mofokeng],” Segolela was quoted by KickOff.
“He was built for this kind of award. Looking from the beginning of the season, he managed to bounce back stronger after struggling a bit.
“If we don’t give the award to Mofokeng, then the football gods will hate us.
“But the MTN8 Last Man Standing should definitely go to Appollis,” he added, while also approving of Mofokeng’s move to Belgian Pro League outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
“Mofokeng is moving to Belgium now because for the growth of your game, you will always look at the next level. So, you will never know how good you are if you don’t go test yourself at the next level.
“With the consistency he has shown in the PSL, you can see he is way ahead of others. So far he’s been consistent in the few years he’s turned professional.”
