Nedbank Cup champions Durban City have begun the rebuild under new head coach Khalil Ben Youssef after parting ways with nine players ahead of the major transfer window.
The Citizens secured their maiden trophy with a 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy in the final of the cup competition last month to qualify for the CAF Confederation for the first time in their history.
City also booked their place in the MTN 8 via an eight-placed finish in the Betway Premiership, although they failed to win their last five games under Pitso Dladla, who has since joined Golden Arrows.
Ahead of what is expected to be a busy schedule for the KZN outfit in 2026-27, Youssef has started to overhaul his squad in preparation for a double assault domestically and in Africa.
Loan signings Terrence Mashego, Taahir Goedeman, Ronaldo Maarman and Siphiwe Mahlangu have all returned to their respective parent clubs, while Joslin Kamatuka, Falakhe Tshanini, Odwa Nyulu, Onele Rulwana and Lindokuhle Chonco were released.
Of the nine players, only Mashego and Kamatuka featured regularly in the league, with the left-back making 21 appearances and the striker turning out 19 times for the club.
