Mamelodi Sundowns star Grant Kekana expressed that the Brazilians ‘carried weight’ on their shoulders en-route to clinching their second CAF Champions League crown last month.
In what was scenes of jubilation for all associated to Sundowns, the Tshwane giants became two-time winners of Africa’s elite club competition following a 2-1 aggregate win over AS FAR in the final on 24 May.
According to Kekana, Sundowns ‘redeemed’ themselves after losing out on winning their ninth-consecutive PSL league crown in the process.
“Winning the Champions League feels like getting a monkey off our backs,” Kekana said, as per Hollywood Bets.
“We’ve been carrying so much weight, wanting this thing for the longest time.
“I haven’t really quite grasped what it actually means, but I think we will get to understand what it means in years to come.
“It was a challenging season. We lost out on all the domestic cups, but we were able to redeem ourselves at the end by taking the big fish [referring to the Champions League], so despite all those challenges and disappointments, we are more than happy to have won the Caf Champions League”.
