Sporting Lisbon Youth Development coach Rui Frois has questioned why Geny Catamo never got the chance to shine in the PSL.
Rui Frois has been left baffled at Mozambique star Geny Catamo not being given the opportunity to play in the PSL as he continues to shine for Sporting, particularly in the UEFA Champions League.
As one of the most dramatic UCL games in recent history, Sporting overturned a 3-0 deficit against Bodo/Glimt in the UCL Round of 16 on Tuesday night by recording a mammoth 5-0 win on home soil to progress to the next phase of the tournament.
While Catamo played a full 90 minutes, Frois was left bewildered at the attacker not being given a chance to play in the PSL despite trying his hand at SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns as a youngster.
“Geny Catamo, who is now playing for Sporting Lisbon and doing well, was supposed to have started in the PSL,” Catamo told Soccer Laduma.
“He never got that opportunity, even though he was presented to clubs here. We looked for opportunities for him in the PSL, but the opportunity wasn’t presented to him.
“Look at him now, he has helped Sporting Lisbon to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions League after being rejected in South Africa by the big clubs”.
