Durban City have parted ways with head coach Gavin Hunt by mutual consent.
This is according to a statement released by the club on social media on Monday evening.
“The decision follows a review of the footballing strategy conducted by the Board of
Directors, which concluded a new approach is required to achieve the Club’s objectives,” the statement reads.
Club Chairman Farook Kadodia emphasised that the termination of Hunt’s contract was a mutual decision, which he described as being the best move for the club at present.
“This was a mutual decision, taken with the Club’s best interests at heart. I’d like to thank Gavin personally for his hard work and dedication, and we all wish him well for the future,” Kadodia said.
“It is now the right time for change as we look to build a competitive side with the future in mind.”
Assistant Coach Pitso Dlada will step into the role of head coach on an interim basis, with his first fixture in charge coming against Orbit College on Wednesday.
The club will search for Hunt’s successor diving the international break coinciding with the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 61-year-old took charge of the newly promoted side five months ago, taking the reins from Simo Dladla at the end of the 2024/25 season which saw them team crowned Motsepe Foundation Championship winners.
In his time in charge, Hunt guided the Citizens to eighth place on the Betway Premiership standings, collecting five wins, four draws and five losses in 14 league games.
Durban City also managed a first round victory in the Carling Knockout before losing to KwaZulu-Natal rivals Richards Bay 3-1 in the semi finals.
