Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has guided MC Alger to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Mokwena’s side played out a goalless draw against Cameroon’s Colombe Sportive at home on Sunday but advanced past their opponent on away goals, having drawn 1-1 in the first leg in Cameroon.
The 38-year-old joined MC Alger in July after his departure from Wydad AC in Morocco and is undefeated at his new club.
MC Alger sit 6th in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, having collected four wins and one draw from the club’s first five games of the campaign.
The club is also yet to lose in the Champions League, having eased past Fassell 3-0 on aggregate in the first preliminary round before narrowly scraping past Colombe.
Mokwena was in charge of Mamelodi Sundowns for 91 matches across two seasons (2022/23, 2023/24) and won two league titles with the club.
