South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has made a change in his squad ahead of Tuesday’s must-win match against Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Bafana Bafana dropped two important points in Friday’s 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe in a Group C match in Durban, where Mbekezeli Mbokazi received a stoppage-time red card.
The red card has ruled Orlando Pirates’ vice-captain out of the crucial encounter against Rwanda, and Broos has decided to bring in Stellenbosch defender Thabo Moloisane as a direct replacement.
“Thabo Moloisane has just arrived in the Bafana Bafana camp in Mbombela, Mpumalanga,” a statement on Bafana’s official X (formerly Twitter) read.
“He arrived minutes after Bafana Bafana landed from Durban this afternoon. He replaces then suspended Mbekezeli Mbokazi.”
South Africa will qualify for the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and USA if they overcome Rwanda and Nigeria secure a victory over Benin at home in Uyo on Tuesday.
The match between Bafana and Rwanda will take place at the Mbombela Stadium.
