Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has urged the club’s fans to support the team after returning to winning ways in style against Richards Bay on Saturday.
Goals from Tashreeq Matthews (brace), Iqraam Rayners and Malibongwe Khoza earned the champions a comprehensive 4-1 win over the Natal Rich Boys in the Betway Premiership match played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.
It was the perfect response to Masandawana’s midweek defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows in a league clash and Cardoso has pleaded with the supporters to rally behind the team at all times after the team reclaimed the Betway Premiership top spot.
“Exactly, you can have a bad day, but you cannot have two. It’s a very difficult pitch to play football unfortunately and for a team that wants to play good football, it’s very hard. But the boys knew that it should not relate to that, but the capacity they have and they started very strong,” the Portuguese tactician told SuperSport TV.
“It was important to start strong, start scoring, get the confidence, don’t allow hopes because sometimes when you cannot score, you create doubts in yourselves and after that, not the result you have.
“I just want to tell again Masandawana family again to support the team, it’s just a team with a lot of new players that have just arrived, some of them and the team is growing, it’s going to grow. Obviously, sometimes setbacks don’t help, but that’s got a lot to do and a lot to achieve,” he added.
“Looking forward with enthusiasm, involving everybody, it’s the only way to achieve results and that’s how Sundowns has built the power and forest that’s been in the last years, and that’s how it’s going to continue to be.”
Sundowns have turned attention to October 4’s Carling Knockout Round of 16 clash against Marumo Gallants, which will also be played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
