Cardoso expects tough test from Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has explained that he expects a tough test from Marumo Gallants in a Betway Premiership catch-up match on Wednesday evening.

Sundowns will host Gallants in a fixture which should have been played on Matchday 1 of the new season, on the opening weekend of August, but was postponed in the wake of the tragic passing of Jayden Adams.

The Brazilians have picked up four points from two league matches thus far, winning 3-2 against TS Galaxy last midweek, before a 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend.

“We play at home. [Gallants] is always a team that has [the] capacity to be aggressive in transition using lineouts, with reinforcement of their strategy, trying to avoid us from playing to the spaces that we are always strong on,” said the Portuguese tactician.

“It’s a team that usually selects players with speed in order to aggress us on transitions.”

Cardoso also spoke on the recent departure of Thapelo Maseko, who has signed with Danish club FC Copenhagen.

“Thapelo is a wonderful boy that has special football characteristics that have something to do more with certain environments. After experiencing Cyprus, it was expected that he will have other opportunities to express himself.”

After facing Gallants, Sundowns will prepare for the first leg of their MTN8 semifinal against Golden Arrows, which will played this Sunday, 23 August.
