Young Africans SC have pulled off one of the most dramatic transfer coups in recent Tanzanian football history by securing striker Selemani Mwalimu on a one-year loan from Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca.
The 20-year-old forward, popularly known as Gomez, spent last season on loan at arch-rivals Simba SC under South African coach Steve Barker after Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca signed him under Soweto-born tactician Rhulani Mokwena.
Just days earlier, during Simba Day celebrations, the club played a video in which Mwalimu publicly assured fans he would remain at Msimbazi for the 2026/27 season and confirmed he had trained with the team in pre-season.

Yanga, led by a South African head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, moved swiftly behind the scenes, agreeing a reported $75,000 loan fee with Wydad and offering an attractive package that convinced the player to switch sides.
On Tuesday morning, Yanga officially unveiled Mwalimu in their green colours alongside the club president, updating his Instagram to declare him a “Mwananchi.”
““SURPRISEEEE Selemani Mwalimu is a Mwananchi,” a Yanga statement read.
“We told you he was training with the junior team and is coming to start the season with the Big Club.”
In the end, Mngqithi dribbled Barker to land the talented striker, underlining once again how unpredictable and fiercely competitive the transfer market between Tanzania’s two biggest clubs can be.
