Ouaddou’s concerns

Abdeslam Ouaddou believes that Pirates will need to make crucial adjustments to their game after ending their pre-season tour of Spain in defeat.

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed that his side have suffered defensively during pre-season after noting a 1-0 loss to NOEM in a pre-season friendly at the Estepona Football Center on Friday.

Pirates conceded a free-kick shortly after the half-hour mark, which was dispatched by ex-West Ham star Saïd Benrahma as the Saudi side saw out the game unscathed.

Reflecting on Pirates’ tour of Spain, Ouaddou mentioned that while the team’s fitness objectives have been reached, the 47-year-old has raised concerns over their defensive solidarity.

“I think in general we got the objective that we came here for,” Ouaddou told the Pirates media, as per the Citizen.

“We came here to create a cohesion with the players and to integrate the new players and at the same time to work and prepare for the first match of the PSL.

“I can say that we achieved most of the targets and we go back with some positives, but on the other hand I must say there’s an area of concern that I’m not so happy about. The area where we have conceded too many goals. We have to quickly fix that area before the first game.”
