Bafana Bafana international Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s agent, Basia Michaels has expressed frustration over third parties interfering in transfer talks for her client.
The Chicago Fire defender was one of South Africa’s standout performers during the team’s historic run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on home soil, where Bafana reached the knockout phase for the first time.
Mbokazi’s eye-catching performances have attracted interest from several clubs, with Michaels urging potential suitors to deal directly with her to best protect the player’s interests.
She also confirmed that MLS side Chicago Fire is open to selling the Bafana defender and is currently in direct discussions with her regarding a potential transfer.
“I’m hoping clubs now know to reach out directly to me and not this concept that they have of dealing with third-parties that don’t have the player’s interest at heart,” Michaels said to Raffaele Oriema on Italian outfit Stile TV.
“I think that’s the most important thing to put out there is the fact that the player gets affected by these fly-by night kind of people that are pretending to have player’s interest at heart, but they don’t.”
“Interest comes from anyone who makes an enquiry directly from the football club that has an interest in Chicago Fire,” she added.
“I can comfortably tell you that Chicago Fire are currently engaging myself and a couple of other people that pertains to a transaction that could be done because they are willing to sell the player.”
Mbokazi, 20, only joined Fire from Orlando Pirates in January 2026 and quickly established himself as a regular under coach Gregg Berhalter.
