Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Ronwen Williams believes South African football fans have much to smile for as South Africa prepares for the keenly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With South African football fans buzzing in anticipation of Hugo Broos’ naming his World Cup squad on Wednesday, Williams expressed that Downs and Pirates put fans in a happy mood ahead of the showpiece.
Given Sundowns’ triumph in the CAF Champions League and Pirates claiming the Betway Premiership title, Williams noted that high morale could be infectious inside the Bafana Bafana WC camp.
“It’s amazing, I think the whole of South Africa is happy now,” Williams said, as per the South African.
“Obviously they won the league, we won the Champions League, and I said a few months ago maybe the season would pan out like this so we can go into the World Cup in a happy mood.
“Most of the squad is made up of our players and theirs, so hopefully when we go into camp we can take that energy, positivity and success with us, and it can rub off on the entire team because we need it as a country.
“It’s only a good thing for South African football”.
