Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze called Glody Lilepo’s dramatic red card “an unfortunate situation,” revealing the bittersweet turmoil of a match-winning hero turned villain in just seconds.
Despite being sent off for removing his shirt after the 68th-minute winner against AmaZulu, Chiefs held on for a vital 1-0 victory that opened a 10-point gap to fourth place in the Betway Premiership.
Kaze praised Lilepo’s passion and relief but stressed the need for greater discipline, confirming the forward will miss the final league match against Chippa United.
“We need to be careful because he was already booked and he takes his shirt off as he celebrates. Which means that we’re going to miss him in the last game. It’s an unfortunate situation,” the Burundian tactician told SuperSport TV.
“Sometimes you also understand the player, the passion and relief for scoring but it’s good that we have three points. But in future we need to be careful about things like that.”
The DR Congolese winger will serve a two-match suspension and miss Chiefs’ final Betway Premiership fixture of the 2025/26 season against Chippa United on 23 May, as well as the opening match of the 2026/27 campaign.
Chiefs will wrap up their league season at home against Chippa United on May 23 before shifting focus to pre-season preparations and potential squad changes ahead of the new season.
