Kruger United have insisted that Abram Mongoya will continue in his role as head coach next season for the club’s debut in the Betway Premiership.
Mongoya pulled off a remarkable feat in his second spell at the KaNyamazane Stadium, taking over the reins in October with the team sitting ninth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and guiding them to the title with two games to spare.
The Village Boys were only formed in 2023 after purchasing the ABC Motsepe League status of Caroline FC and they earned promotion to the second tier of South African football at the first time of asking in 2023-24.
Having secured a fifth-placed finish last term, the Mpumalanga outfit went on to win their second promotion in three years, following in the footsteps of Magesi and Orbit College, who made their respective top-flight bows in 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Kruger United Sporting Director Elasto Kapowezha revealed they will resist the urge to appoint someone with Betway Premiership experience and have full faith in Mongoya and his backroom staff.
“The technical team led by Abram Mongoya would remain the same. We are intending to continue with the same technical team that really did us proud and that we have so much confidence in that they’ll also do well in the Betway Premiership,” Kapowezha told SABC Sport.
“For some of us have had the honour to work in the Betway Premiership, but this is a first for the club and the club has to respect, not too much, but respect the PSL but it has to respect the league.
“It has to understand where it is right now and where it is going. It has to make sure that it puts structures in place for it to cater for the huge demands of playing in the premier division.
“However, you might also argue and say for the club to be where it is to have gained promotion in a way you’d have to be thinking like a PSL division club.
“We are confident that already the groundwork and the foundation that has been laid for the last two seasons for the club also worked for us to make sure that we get into the Betway Premiership and not be a one-season wonder. So, very confident that the club has been thinking like a PSL outfit already.”
