Durban City assistant coach Ashraf Hendricks admits continental football wasn’t one of their goals this season, but it’s something they very much want to experience now by winning the Nedbank Cup.
The Citizens are enjoying a good first season back in the Betway Premiership after gaining promotion as Motsepe Foundation Championship winners in 2024-25, sitting seventh in the table with four matches remaining.
Pitso Dladla’s side have an opportunity to finish the campaign with silverware as they face TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, with the champions qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup.
The club formerly known as Maritzburg United also reached the final of the competition back in 2017-18 when they lost 1-0 against Free State Stars, and Hendricks revealed they keen to test themselves on the African stage.
“I think that’s one of the things. Obviously, yet again, as a club, it wasn’t prepared for. And it’s something that now all of a sudden pops up on our objective list,” he said.
“And it’s something that we want to have. Because at the end of the day, we want to be part of Africa. We’ve seen Sundowns, we’ve seen Stellenbosch.
“We want to be a part of that. And we want to have a scenario not just to be a part of it, but to experience and to learn and to get the badge out there, get the club out there.”
