Ouaddou impressed

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was pleased with the performances of Andre de Jong and Daniel Msendami in their first outing for the club as Pirates defeated Magesi 2-0 at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto on Saturday.

The Buccaneers added to their already staggering depth during the January transfer window, acquiring the services of de Jong from Stellenbosch and Msendami and Mpho Chabatsane from Marumo Gallants, Ouaddou’s last club before joining Pirates at the start of the 2025/26 season.

While some established names were missing from the team sheet, newcomers de Jong and Msendami impressed the Moroccan tactician in the debuts as both players came on in the second half.

“Part of the plan, you know, when you bring some new players, I think it was the right moment to show them to our fans as well and to give them the opportunity to start in our stadium,” said Ouaddou after the victory.

“They did well. It’s not easy to come here in a new team, you know, they have to integrate quickly. And I think they did well. The time that I have been given to them, they use it well.

And for me, it’s a lot of hope for us, for the future.”

Chabatsane will have to wait for his debut as he was not given the opportunity to introduce himself to the Pirates faithful on Saturday.
