Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is determined to ease pressure on himself by masterminding a victory over Al Hilal Omdurman in Rwanda.
It is something that Masandawana failed to do on home soil as the two teams drew 2-2 in a CAF Champions League Group C match played in Pretoria, where the Tshwane giants let the lead slip twice last week Friday.
Sundowns then issued a statement condemning the behaviour of supporters, who threw liquid over sporting director Flemming Berg and threatened Cardoso at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium after the game.
Although Cardoso masterminded a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership fixture in Polokwane on Tuesday, pressure is still on the Portuguese tactician.
“As always, we approach every game to win,” Cardoso told Goal Mzansi.
“So, we will go to Rwanda with the right strategy to win the game, of course. It has nothing to do with the match that will be played in the other stadium.
“Our match will be our match, we need to play to win, we will always play to win. We didn’t take the points we deserved [on Friday]. We’re gonna have to go and fight for three points in Rwanda.”
A victory over Al Hilal would not only ease pressure on Cardoso but also see Sundowns take a step towards securing a spot in the quarter-finals of Africa’s biggest football club tournament.
The two teams will meet at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. Kick-off is at 21h00 SA Time.
