After being without a club, Wayde Jooste has joined Stellenbosch.
Stellenbosch has announced the signing of PSL veteran wing-back Wayde Jooste.
The club announced the news on its official website and social media on Thursday.
Jooste has amassed over 200 professional appearances since beginning his career in 2013. He has represented Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Highlands Park, Orlando Pirates, Maritzburg United, and most recently AmaZulu.
The 34-year-old’s contract at the Durban side was not renewed and he found himself without a club at the end of the 2024/25 season.
His last appearances came for the South African national team taking part in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in August, where he featured in all of Bafana Bafana’s group-stage games.
Jooste expressed his excited at joining the Maroons in the Cape Winelands.
“Stellenbosch is a Club that I have admired for some time,” he said.
“It’s a club that has been very successful in the last few seasons, and it’s special for me to become part of that.
“A few weeks ago, I got a call from Coach Steve, and he asked me if I would be interested, and I don’t even think he finished his question before I said yes.
“I’ve been praying and believing that something will come up for me, and something as good as this I could never say no to. I’m honoured and privileged to be part of the Club,” said Jooste.
Stellenbosch has struggled in the Betway Premiership this season and sits in 14th place, one point above the relegation zone with three wins, three draws and eight losses.
Despite the club’s struggles in the league, the Maroons made it to the final of the MTN8 for a second successive season but were beaten by Orlando Pirates.
Stellies also sit atop group C in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Head coach Steve Barker will hope that Jooste’s experience will bring some much needed stability to his side.
