Former Orlando Pirates leader Lucky Lekgwathi believes that the Buccaneers concede fewer goals than all other teams in the Betway Premiership as a result of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s defensive mindset.
As it stands, Pirates lead the way at the top of the Betway Premiership table and have conceded the least amount of goals (5) in the league after 12 matches played.
The ex-Pirates star has thus attributed the club’s strong backline to Ouaddou having been a defender in his playing days.
“Do you know why Pirates haven’t been conceding a lot of goals this season? It’s because the coach was a defender,” Lekgwathi said, as per Soccer Laduma.
“Coaches always put emphasis on positions where they excelled when they were still playing.
“A former goalkeeper who becomes a coach will always make sure the goalkeepers are good. The Pirates coach was a defender and it’s easy for him to help the defenders not to concede goals.
“He wasn’t just a defender, but a good one.”
