Former Mamelodi Sundowns superstar Lucas Ribeiro Costa has seen one of his top-class goals for the South African champions being nominated for a global accolade.
The Brazilian forward’s stunning goal against German giants Borussia Dortmund has been nominated for the Puskas Award ahead of this year’s The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony.
Ribeiro made a moment of brilliance in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Group F match between Sundowns and Dortmund at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, USA, in June.
Collected the ball near the centre circle, he dribbled past several Dortmund defenders before scoring with a rasping left-footed strike – beating goalkeeper Gregor Kobel hands down.
However, the match ended in a 4-3 win in favour of Dortmund and Ribeiro forced a move to Spanish La Liga 2 side Cultura Leonesa in September after terminating his Sundowns contract through FIFA.
Voting opened today via FIFA’s dedicated platform and will close on 3 December 2025.
