Veteran midfielder and Mozambique captain Elias Pelembe, known as Domingues, has been recalled to the Mozambican national team ahead of the team’s upcoming international friendlies in Morocco.
The 41-year-old, who turns 42 on Thursday, was dropped from the squad by head coach Chiquinho Conde earlier this year after missing a FIFA World Cup qualifier due to a late passport submission that resulted in the player not being granted a visa.

The captain is set to rejoin the Mambas after a meeting with Conde and vice-captains Edmilson Dove, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs, Mexer (Edson André Sitoe) and Reinildo Mandava.
The attacking midfielder is best known for his six-season stint at Mamelodi Sundowns, where the club won the league in the 2013/2014 season.
He spent 15 seasons in South Africa’s top flight, winning back-to-back league titles with SuperSport United and another with Bidvest Wits, and was named PSL Player of the Season for the 2007/08 campaign.
Domingues has racked up 101 caps for the Mambas and is set to add to his tally as Mozambique face off against Morocco in Tangier on Friday before tackling Chad in Tetouan on Monday.
Should he be included in his nation’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad, the seasoned veteran will become the second-oldest player in the history of the tournament. The record for the oldest belongs to Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, who played in the tournament at 44-years-old in 2017
