Kaizer Chiefs moved into the top three on the Betway Premiership standings with a 1-0 win over Durban City.
Kaizer Chiefs struck late to claim a 1-0 win over Durban City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday, applying pressure to the top of the table.
With three points secured, AmaKhosi moved to third place in the Betway Premiership with 19 points from 10 games, overtaking Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates and sitting two points behind league-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Substitute Flávio Silva, who came on for Glody Lilepo in the 80th minute, found the back of the net in the 88th minute to give his side the win.
The former Portugal youth international has scored three goals in four appearances for Chiefs since signing in July.
Chiefs enjoyed a stellar start to the season, bagging four wins and a draw in the club’s opening five league games.
AmaKhosi’s momentum stalled as they suffered their first loss of the campaign to Sekhukhune United, losing 3-1 at home in mid September. This would be head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s final game in charge of the club, with co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze taking over.
The pair struggled upon being given the reins full-time, managing two wins in eight games in all competitions but not suffering defeat in the league.
The team has now achieved back-to-back wins for the first time since August and looks to be finding its feet.
Their one-point advantage over Pirates may disappear, as the Buccaneers face Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. If Pirates win, they will regain a two point lead over Chiefs with a game in hand and be level with Masandawana at the top of the table. If Sundowns win, they will extend their lead at the top of the table and move to 24 points from 11 games.
