Kaizer Chiefs lost more ground on the Betway Premiership frontrunners after being held to a 0-0 draw by struggling Siwelele at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, October 22.
Amakhosi were seeking their first win in four games, having played out to a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu most recently on October 1, while Siwelele looked to build on their 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants three days earlier which lifted them off the foot of the table up to 14th position.The first half was a tug-of-war for possession, but Kaizer Chiefs looked the sharper outfit — like a team that just needed one good bounce to find the net.
Siwelele came out swinging early, testing Brandon Petersen twice — once with a tame effort and again with a close-range strike that had him stretching like a yoga instructor at sunrise.
Chiefs weren’t about to be outdone, though, as Mduduzi Shabalala’s long-range rocket made Ricardo Goss earn his paycheck, while young Mfundo Vilakazi curled one just wide to keep the crowd buzzing.
Reeve Frosler fancied himself a highlight-reel hero just before halftime but sent his shot into the stands, while Zitha Kwinika followed suit early in the second half — more frustration than finesse.
Makabi Lilepo’s halftime cameo promised spark but delivered smoke, blasting over when he really should’ve hit the target.
Frosler kept knocking, finally forcing a decent save from Goss in the 71st minute after a couple of earlier misses that probably still haunt the corner flag.
Siwelele almost spoiled the party moments later when Chibuike Ohizu nearly stole it with a header, only for Petersen to come flying across goal like a man possessed.
Both teams huffed and puffed in the dying minutes, but neither could blow the other’s house down — just plenty of running, sliding, and “almosts.”
In the end, it finished 0–0 at the FNB Stadium — a match full of effort, sweat, and suspense, but no goals to show for it… unless you count the ones missed by a few inches.
