Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says his side should ‘keep going’ after overcoming Siwelele FC in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers emerged as 1-0 winners over Siwelele thanks to Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s stoppage-time winner, which earned Bucs a spot in the quarter-finals of the South African League Cup.
Therefore, Ouaddou became the first Pirates coach to win eight successive matches across all competitions in the PSL era, while also keeping eight consecutive clean sheets.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate my boys, it’s not easy to play against Siwelele, it’s a strong team, they showed us a great character today with a good tactic,” the French-Moroccan tactician told SuperSport TV.
“I know that these games will be won in small details and it came from our central defender, it gave us the victory. I’m happy for the fans, my boys, it give us the opportunity to the next stage after the FIFA break.
“And they have to be honest too and I’m very proud of them since they are playing every three days, winning, keeping a clean sheet, so it’s fantastic, we have to keep going.”
Pirates will look to maintain their winning streak after the FIFA break as they travel to the DR Congo, where they are set to take on St. Eloi Lupopo in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash.
The first-leg game is scheduled to be played at the Stade Frederic Kibassa Maliba in Lubumbashi on the weekend of 17-19 October.
