Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen states his focus remains on producing quality performances for his club after being left out of the Bafana Bafana squad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Petersen has enjoyed his start to the 2025\/26 season, registering 11 clean sheets in 18 appearances for AmaKhosi in all competitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 31-year-old was included in Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos\u2019 54-man preliminary squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, but was not included in the final 25-man squad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Broos opted to go with his tried and tested goalkeeping core of Mamelodi Sundowns\u2019 Ronwen Williams, Orlando Pirates\u2019 Sipho Chaine and Siwelele\u2019s Ricardo Goss, who were in every one of Broos\u2019 squads this year despite experimentation and rotation at other positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash between Orlando Pirates and the Carling All-Stars, Petersen opened up about his desire to represent the national team, but maintained that his focus remains on his club duties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt the end of the day, yes I want to be in the national team, I want to represent my country but for me personally, my first and the most important job is at Kaizer Chiefs; they pay my salary, and that\u2019s where I work,\u201d Petersen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI always say that the only thing I can control is my performances at club level. I can\u2019t control what the national coach does, that is his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhether he picks me or not, I can\u2019t complain about that. But obviously, as a footballer, I always want to be there, because that is my aim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut my main focus is performing at club level and try to be the best I can be,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Petersen is set to start in goal for the Carling All-Stars as they attempt to claim a third trophy in a row when facing Carling Knockout winners Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
